The Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Foundation for the Development of the North (FORS Montenegro) since April 17, 2018, started the implementation of the project “Disasters do not know the borders”, aimed at strengthening the capacities of institutions and services from Montenegro and Albania which deal with the protection and rescue and disaster risk reduction, with an emphasis on flood protection, as well as on informing the population about the flood risks.
The two-year project will be implemented in Montenegro and Albania. The main activities include procurement of flood protection and rescue equipment, as well as the equipment for forecasting hydro-meteorological conditions. Also, foreseen activities include also trainings for representatives of institutions and services dealing with protection and rescue and as well as with crisis management in case of natural (natural) disasters, technical and technological and other disasters. Moreover, the activities include cross-border demonstration exercises, updating of the flood data base in the Shkodra Lake region, a seminar on models of good practice regarding flood protection and awareness raising campaigns on flood risks, preventive measures and protection and rescue activities.
The project is financed by the European Union within the Cross-border Cooperation Program Montenegro – Albania 2014-2020. The activities in the Republic of Albania will be implemented by the Prefecture of Shkodra.
